Residents of Susta Village of Susta Rural Municipality-5 in West Nawalparasi have been forced to live in darkness for 10 days. In the year 2077, electric lights were extended through solar mini grid technology due to the lack of national transmission lines.
However, after the solar grid broke down within three years, the residents of Susta had to be deprived of electricity. Locals complain that they have to rely on tukis and lanterns when the solar grid breaks down during the summer.
In Susta, which could not be connected to the power transmission line due to the Narayani river, electricity was extended through the solar grid. Rabindra Jaiswal, Chairman of Solar Mini Grid Construction Committee, said that there was a technical problem in solar and the team is coming for repairs.
The project was completed three years ago at a cost of 48 million rupees for 265 households in Susta from Alternative Energy Promotion Center and various supporting agencies. Locals have demanded that the grid be repaired and electricity flowed immediately.
Teknarayan Upadhyay, chairman of Susta rural municipality, said that alternative energy promotion center has not handed over the project to the local level and the necessary funds for maintenance have not been allocated, so there is a problem for maintenance.
